Beer style defined: Hefeweizen

Hefeweizen – Hefeweizen, or Hefe for short, are German-style wheat beers. Hefe means “yeast” and weizen means “wheat” in German. These are typically light in body and sometimes unfiltered, which can leave some sediment at the bottom of your glass (or bottle if you are a bottle-only type drinker). Many of the better hefes out there have a very distinct banana flavor, but are very light in taste.

Recommendations:
Good – Harpoon UFO Hefeweizen
Better – Paulaner Hefeweizen
Best – 3 Floyd’s Drunk Monk, Schneider Weisse Original
