Beer style defined: Porter

Porter – Porters are a darker, more robust version of a brown ale. With caramel, chocolate, and molasses notes making up most of the note characters, craft breweries love to use porters as the base and pack them with coffee notes. These are great beers to drink in the fall and winter seasons, although we recommend not waiting that long.

Recommendations:
Good – Founders Porter
Better – Ballast Point Victory at Sea, Duclaw Sweet Baby Jesus, Hideout Smugglers Hazelnut Porter
Best – Hoppin’ Frog Infusion A Coffee Porter, Deschutes Black Butte series, Jackie O’s Bourbon Barrel Black Maple
